Council members heard from Douglas Smith, Assistant Secretary for the Private Sector, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, at the Executive Roundtable. Assistant Secretary Smith recognized the importance of the private sector’s role in homeland security, and provided insight on the work of the Office of the Private Sector, including outreach efforts to improve communication between industry and government. The discussion, moderated by Council board member David Abel of IBM, highlighted the commitment of both the Council and DHS to ensure the Department and its private sector partners are working together to achieve success in the mission of homeland security.
