DescriptionCouncil members toured the Washington Regional Threat & Analysis Center (WRTAC) on August 27, 2010. About WRTAC - The Washington Regional Threat and Analysis Center (WRTAC) is the District of Columbia's fusion center. The WRTAC was formed at the behest of the Metropolitan Police Department Chief of Police, Cathy Lanier, in 2007 in order to facilitate prevention, response, and mitigation to criminal and terrorist activities, as well as man-made and/or natural disasters by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating diverse intelligence information and intelligence products. The WRTAC is composed of intelligence and crime analysts with backgrounds in local, state, and federal law enforcement, fire, EMS, public health, bioweapons, rail transportation, HIDTA, National Guard, Joint Terrorism Task Force, the FBI, DHS, Geographic Information Systems, Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, terrorism, and homeland security policy. As a true cross-jurisdictional partnership with the singular goal of safeguarding the National Capital Region through local and regional analysis of data, the WRTAC strives to fuse diverse expertise into one coordinated effort. The fusion process allows local and state entities to better forecast and identify emerging crime and public health trends. It supports multidisciplinary, proactive, riskbased, and community-focused problem solving. It provides a continuous flow of information and intelligence to officials to assist in developing a depiction of evolving threats. Finally, it improves the delivery of emergency and nonemergency services.
