Marc Pearl is the President and CEO of the Homeland Security & Defense Business Council. Prior to joining the Council in 2008 Marc was the principal and chairman of IT Policy Solutions (ITPS), which he founded in 2003 to counsel private sector organizations in meeting their public policy challenges while also serving as executive director of the Consumer Electronics Retailers Coalition. Before launching ITPS, Pearl was a partner and led the e-commerce policy practice at the global law firm, Shaw Pittman LLP. He was previously general counsel and senior vice president of government affairs at the Information Technology Association of America (now TechAmerica). Marc served as chief of staff and legislative counsel to former U.S. Rep. Dan Glickman, when the congressman was Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
Pearl has lived and worked in DC for three decades, focusing his expertise on technology and cyber security policy issues for more than 15 years. His clients have included a wide range of Fortune 100 companies and CEO-led associations in all critical economic and infrastructure sectors. Marc helped form and led coalitions that helped pass Y2K millennium bug liability legislation, digital authentication, e-commerce transaction jurisdiction laws and the “DTV transition.” He has represented the private sector on U.S. government delegations at the Hague Conference on Private International Law, the World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Pearl received his B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and his J.D. from Emory University’s School of Law. He has been married to Gwen Enfield Pearl, a psychotherapist in private practice in DC, for more than 30 years. They have two grown sons.
 Joe Carden, Vice President

Joe Carden came to the Council in 2007, but has been associated with the Council in various roles since its inception in 2004. He oversees the Council's efforts on strategic planning, government affairs, member relations and internal operations. As part of his responsibilities, Joe coordinates the Council’s Executive Roundtables, Chairman’s Briefs, Industry-Government Receptions and the organization’s Annual Dinner.
Carden has accumulated more than a dozen years of experience in Washington, leading political marketing, membership services and public relations.Before joining the Council he was a manager at Unisys, responsible for developing management consulting services for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. While at Unisys, Carden led a team of five consultants on a variety of marketing communications projects, including the U.S. Customs and Borders Protection's Office of Anti-Terrorism, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration's Office of the Chief Information Officer, the Homeland Security & Defense Business Council, as well as the following Unisys programs in Strategic Customer Relationship Management Communications, the Airport of the Future Communications, the CBRNE Detection Sensor Solution, and the Registered Traveler Solution.
Carden was a senior advertising executive at Congressional Quarterly and The New Republic from 2001-2004, where he developed new marketing campaigns, clients and business lines. He was a project director at Wirthlin Worldwide from 1999-2001, co-managed over thirty Congressional Communications Workshops, assisted in the development and implementation of strategic communication planning for the campaign to reduce the United States' dependency on foreign oil, and consulted on communications and political strategy with ten successful U.S. congressional campaigns during the 2000 election.
Carden served as political director for U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell's re-election campaign from 1996-1998, which included directing the campaign field staff, local leaders and advance staff. Carden is a graduate of the University of Georgia.

Kristina Tanasichuk, Vice President

(202) 470-6443 Kristina Tanasichuk joined the Council in 2008, having accumulated over 18 years of lobbying and advocacy experience. She oversees the Council’s activities on thought leadership and programs, strategic partnerships, internal and external communications, marketing and public affairs. As part of her responsibilities,Tanasichuk manages the Council's Executive Brief Series and strategic alliances, as well as the organization’s Thought Leadership Committee and its Board of Advisors.
Tanasichuk is the president and founder of Women in Homeland Security, a professional development organization for women in the field of homeland security. She also co-founded and currently serves as executive director of the American Security Challenge, an event that awards monetary and contractual awards in excess of $3.5 million to emerging security technology firms.
Before coming to the Council, Tanasichuk was the event director for the largest homeland security conference and exposition in the country – GovSec, U.S. Law & Ready. She also managed three Boards of Advisors representing first responders, law enforcement, and the physical and IT security components of homeland security, determined conference curriculum, established all of the strategic partnerships, and managed the communications and media relations for the show.
Tanasichuk began her career in homeland security shortly after September 11, 2001 while at the American Public Works Association where she managed homeland security and emergency management issues before Congress and the administration on first responder issues, water, transportation, utility and public building security. Prior to that she worked on electric utility deregulation and domestic energy issues for a boutique lobbying firm and as professional staff for the Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce.Tanasichuk has also worked at the American Enterprise Institute, several Washington, D.C. associations representing both the public and private sectors, and the White House under President George H.W. Bush.
Tanasichuk serves on the Board of the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation and as an Advisor to the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC). She is a graduate of St. Olaf College and earned her Masters in Public Administration from George Mason University.
Melissa Middlesworth, Manager

Melissa Middlesworth is responsible for managing Council events and facilitating communication to members through updating the Web site and writing the monthly newsletter. Prior to joining the Council staff, Middlesworth worked in the Office of Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice. She was in charge of coordinating the U.S. Attorney General’s press events, serving as a liaison to law enforcement components, U.S. Attorneys, state and local governments, and working on a variety of public affairs projects.
Before working at the Justice Department, Middlesworth was a congressional staffer at the U.S. House of Representatives. Middlesworth is a volunteer at Horton's Kids and the American Red Cross. She is a graduate of Arizona State University.
Pam (Fandel) Poore, Director of Finance

Pam (Fandel) Poore is the Director of Finance for the Council. Poore does extensive behind-the-scenes work to make sure all of the finances are in order as well as handling human resources and other critical administrative tasks. Poore shares her fine organizational and managerial skills with E-Luminate Group, Inc., the Technology CEO Council (TCC) and Raffetto Herman Strategic Communications, LLC, also serving as their Director of Finance. She has also served on the Advisory Committee of the Eben Tisdale Public Policy Fellowship since its inception in 1998.Poore has over 25 years of coalition and financial management experience.
Previously, Poore was the office manager at the former lobbying firm Podesta-Mattoon and an administrative assistant at the law firm of Preston Gates Ellis & Rouvelas Meeds. Poore also spent two years in Harrisburg, Pa., helping to form and manage the Pennsylvania Task Force on Product Liability. She previously worked for Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., Sen. Jeremiah Denton, R-Ala., and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Fish & Wildlife Service.
She and her husband Lee own a charter fishing business on the Southwest Gulf Coast of Florida. Poore works full-time from her home in Florida so she can spend as much time outside - preferably on the beach or on a fishing boat. Poore also enjoys cheering on the Washington Redskins through the good and bad seasons, and playing with her dogs and cats.
