HSDBC Announces Emerging Influencer in Homeland Security Award

November 4, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Since 2006 the Homeland Security & Defense Business Council has recognized high-level public officials (both former and current) who have contributed to the homeland security enterprise through our Distinguished Service Award, presented at our Annual Dinner. Award recipients have ranged from members of Congress to heads of DHS and its Component agencies, as well as state and local leaders deserving of special recognition.

This year, in addition to presenting our Distinguished Service Award, the Council is excited to announce the launch of a new award geared towards recognizing mid-level government officials who have demonstrated the potential for future leadership and influence within the homeland security enterprise. Nominated by Council member company representatives, the Emerging Influencer in Homeland Security Award will be bestowed to an individual who represents the next generation of homeland security leaders serving within the public sector. Honorees will be selected based on their recent achievements and contributions to the mission, as well as for their commitment to solving our nation’s critical homeland security issues through meaningful industry partnerships and engagement.

Criteria: Any individual from a Council member company may nominate a government official for the Emerging Influencer in Homeland Security Award. Nominees will be judged on the following qualifications:

  • Current federal employee at the career non-SES level

  • Demonstrated leadership within their team and/or Component that resulted in advances to the mission and/or management of homeland security within the past two years. These include the development of critical homeland security programs and/or initiatives; the creation of more effective and efficient policies and business processes; and/or the prevention of or response to a major homeland security threat or incident

  • Willingness to go above and beyond in engaging and collaborating with their industry partners

  • Potential to advance within their career to become a true influencer within the homeland security enterprise

Council members are encouraged to nominate their current and/or former customers for the award. The finalist will be selected by the Council’s Board of Directors and honored at our end-of-the-year event in December.

Nominations Process and Important Dates: All nominations must be received by Friday, November 13, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. To nominate an individual, please submit a few paragraphs (but no more than one-page) that outlines why the nominee meets the above criteria for the award. Please include the federal employee’s name, title, program division, and component/agency in the summary.

Nominations should be sent via email to Julia Treanor, Director of Membership Engagement, at jtreanor@homelandcouncil.org. The awardee will be announced by Monday, November 23rd and honored at our end-of-the-year event on Thursday, December 10th.

We hope you join us in honoring our partners in government who will make an impact on homeland security in the years to come.

If you have any questions, please contact Julia Treanor at jtreanor@homelandcouncil.org or (610) 620-3062.
