Executive Tour to El Paso, TX

Please join the Council on an Executive Tour to El Paso, Texas on Monday, October 28th and Tuesday, October 29th. Our visit will include a combination of briefings, tours, and discussions with the U.S. Border Patrol, CBP Office of Field Operations, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The program is designed to help our members better understand the mission and unique operational capabilities and challenges of CBP and ICE in El Paso through a closer look at their critical facilities, business processes, people, and technologies. Members will visit the CBP Bridge of the Americas Port of Entry; tour the physical land border and related technology and infrastructure; visit the Otero County Processing Center and Tornillo migrant holding facility; and gain a greater insight into the humanitarian and security issues involved with processing and caring for detainee populations. We will also hold a cross-agency discussion on border and immigration issues with a range of DHS representatives, HHS and FBI.

Thought Leadership Meeting with Shonnie Lyon, Director of DHS Office of Biometric Identity Management

The Council's first of two Thought Leadership meetings this year will be held on July 11th and will feature a briefing and discussion with Shonnie Lyon, Director of the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), DHS Management Directorate. Mr. Lyon will speak about OBIM current and future initiatives (including HART development Inc3/4); challenges in the biometric space; and an upcoming RFI. Following Mr. Lyon's remarks, the Council will hold an internal member meeting for attendees to discuss industry issues and desired engagement with government around the topics of biometrics and data analytics.

Please join the Council on an Executive Tour to Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, June 10th and Tuesday, June 11th to learn about the biometric and facial recognition technology in use at the Atlanta Airport.

Our visit will include a combination of briefings, tours, and demonstrations with CBP’s Office of Field Operations, TSA, and Delta Airlines at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Attendees will also travel to the ICE Field Office in Atlanta for a tour of the facility and sessions with ICE ERO and HSI leadership. The program is designed to help members better understand the mission and unique operational capabilities and challenges of these critical homeland security agencies through a closer look at their business processes, people, and technologies.

Executive Tour to the United States Secret Service James J. Rowley Training Center

The Council is hosting an Executive Tour of the United States Secret Service James J. Rowley Training Center (JJRTC) in Laurel, MD.  The one-day program will combine tours, demonstrations, and briefings to provide participants with intimate customer interaction, peer-to-peer networking, and a better understanding of the USSS' mission, operations, and capabilities. Attendees will also participate in a roundtable discussion with leaders from the JJRTC and USSS Headquarters to exchange insights on the challenges and opportunities that lie within preparing the next-generation of homeland security officials for new and emerging threats. 

The agenda will include: 

  • A demonstration of the center's judgmental use of force simulator

  • A mock 'attack on principal' demonstration in the tactical village

  • A tour of USSS armored vehicles and a driving demonstration

  • A briefing at the Weapons Library

  • Introductory and closing roundtable discussions with USSS leaders

National Conversation on the Promise of Innovation

The Council’s Annual National Conversation brings together more than 100 homeland security industry leaders and government officials to discuss the critical issues impacting the Homeland Security Enterprise. Confirmed speakers include Kevin McAleenan, Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and William Bryan, Acting Under Secretary for Science and Technology. There will also be a panel discussion on ID verification and management featuring Tammy Meckley, Associate Director, Immigration Records and Identity Services Directorate, USCIS, and an official from ICE.

The event also includes the release of the Council’s Annual Report of our 20/20 Project on the State of the Homeland Security Enterprise, focusing on the challenges and opportunities in encouraging innovation and addressing bid protests in the homeland security market.
 
Our special annual program will be immediately followed by our National Conversation Networking Cocktail Reception.
